Nothing’s latest teaser suggests its budget lineup isn’t dead, it’s just rebranding

Shortly after confirming plans to shelve its next CMF phone, Nothing has dropped a teaser pointing to a likely replacement under the main brand. A new clip shared on X doesn’t name the upcoming device explicitly, but a detail near the end suggests it may be called the Nothing Phone 4b.

A familiar design hints at the lineup it belongs to

The clip shows a hand-drawn phone that follows Nothing’s usual design cues, including a see-through back panel with visible internal components and a single camera lens on the rear. The footage then cuts to a row of sketching pencils, with the 4b pencil standing taller than the rest.

The post itself carries the caption “(b)usted,” a play on words that reinforces the 4b name. If the name holds, the Nothing Phone 4b could slot in below the brand’s existing Phone 4a and 4a Pro as a more affordable option.

A canceled CMF phone may explain the timing

Nothing recently said it’s canceling plans for a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro due to rising memory and RAM prices. Co-founder Akis Evangelidis said keeping the device’s original specs intact would have pushed its price well above what the brand considers reasonable for that segment.

The company has continued teasing other unreleased hardware in the meantime, including a device going by the codename Blastoise, suggesting that its broader lineup is still moving forward even as the CMF side pulls back. A leaker has separately claimed that existing CMF phone projects have been folded into the main Nothing brand, which would help explain why a low-cost device is resurfacing under Nothing’s own name instead of CMF’s.
