Motorola phones have always been loved for their clean, bloat-free Android experience. However, for years, the company has struggled in two departments: camera quality and software update commitments.
With the Razr Fold, its first book-style foldable, Motorola appears to have addressed both. The phone promises seven years of OS and security updates, and as DXOMARK’s latest results confirm, the camera is no longer a weak point either.
The best foldable camera?
DXOMARK is an independent camera testing lab whose scores are regarded as the gold standard for evaluating smartphone cameras. The lab tested the Razr Fold across photo, video, and zoom performance, and the results were strong across the board.

The phone scored 164, the highest for any foldable smartphone, and earned a Gold Label. It even beat the Samsung Galaxy Fold 7, which scored 145 in DXOMARK’s camera test. According to DXOMARK, the Moto Razr Fold delivered accurate exposure, wide dynamic range, and solid low-light performance.
It also produced balanced colors across various lighting conditions while excelling in telephoto and portrait performance. Even considering the overall smartphone ranking, the Razr Fold ranked in 9th place, scoring only 4 points less than the iPhone 17 Pro.
The hardware behind the score
The Motorola Razr Fold achieved this high score thanks to the powerful camera hardware it packs. The phone is equipped with a sophisticated triple 50MP camera system, including a high-resolution main sensor powered by a Sony LYTIA 828 sensor, a dedicated 3x periscope telephoto lens powered by a Sony LYTIA 600 sensor, and an ultra-wide shooter offering a 122° field of view.
The phone also features a 20MP front-facing camera and a 32MP internal camera, ensuring crisp, high-quality video calls whether it’s folded or unfolded. Powering this camera system is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which not only brings excellent performance but also enables AI processing for images, enhancing colors, reducing noise, and sharpening details.
What this means for users
Foldables have always struggled in the camera department. Motorola has bucked that trend with its Razr Fold by including a truly flagship-grade camera system. If you’ve held off on buying a foldable because of subpar camera performance, the Motorola Razr Fold might finally be worth considering.
