Facebook and Messenger outage sparks logout panic as Meta services stumble

Facebook and Messenger users were briefly knocked offline Friday morning, with many saying they had been logged out and couldn’t get back in. The Facebook and Messenger outage sent users to X, Reddit, and other platforms to check whether the problem was widespread or tied to their own accounts.

Downdetector showed the first visible surge in Facebook complaints around 9:52 a.m. ET.

Meta Vice President of Communications Andy Stone posted on X shortly after, saying some people were having trouble getting into Meta services and that it was working on a fix.

We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it.

Downdetector showed more than 123,864 Facebook complaints and more than 8,000 Instagram complaints as of 09:46 a.m. ET.

Messenger was also part of the disruption, based on user complaints about being signed out of both Facebook and Messenger.

Instagram showed clear outage activity, while Threads was less certain.

As of writing, live outage trackers were still showing fresh problem reports for Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, so users who can’t get back in should avoid repeated password resets and wait for the services to stabilize.
